Crowe Officially In Talks For Noah

Darren Aronofsky almost has him hookedLike dogs circling each other looking to establish dominance, there's been a good-natured dance going on for a while now between Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky and Russell Crowe over the issue of the actor starring in Aronofsky's take on the Biblical epic, Noah. Now it appears things have moved on from the cautious tail swishing to the... Well, you know what dogs do for greetings. So before this metaphor gets dangerously odd, just read on for news that Crowe is now in negotiations to star.Paramount and New Regency are providing the financing for the project, and the companies are now deep in talks with Crowe's representatives to hammer out a deal that could see him boarding the ark this July for the start of filming. While a lot of exactly which angle the director plans to take with the story is still a mystery, we do know that it'll find Noah as a man who loves all of Earth's creatures and the planet itself, yet despairs at the way humanity has treated it all.Aronofsky and Ari Handel wrote the original draft of the script, with Hugo's John Logan brought in to polish itCrowe is working hard at the moment, singing for his supper on the set of Tom Hooper's Les Miserables. He's been offered several other roles in addition to Noah, including one in Dracula detective story Harker and the villainous role in Akiva Goldsman's take on Winter's Tale. He'll next be seen in The Man With The Iron Fists, then Les Mis and Broken City before he also shows up as Jor-El in Man Of Steel.

REVIEW: Insufficient Chemistry Can't Derail Tyler Perry's Harmless Good Deeds

Tyler Perry does not don drag or explore religion in the latest,Good Deeds - the film is not area of the prolific entertainment giant's Madea franchise (next stopMadea's Witness Protection, slated for later this year), but instead of his less broad type of feel-good dramedies like Daddy's Young Girls andWhy Did I Got Married? But regardless of the restrained tone, it's believe it or not savvy an entertainment, one which Perry authored, directed and stars in as Bay Area businessmanWesley Deeds, the wealthy, perfect boy of the good family, mind of the organization his father produced. Wesley'slife changes as he meets Lindsey (Thandie Newton), a unhappy single mother whoworks because the evening janitor in the business building. Like Maid in Manhattan,Good Deedsis a metropolitan story book where the concept of a prince swooping lower to woo and save poor people cinder girl is offered a modern day twist. However the film is knowledgeable it's Wesley, and also the guy playing him, who're the actual objects of fantasy here. Loving to his icy mother (Phylicia Rashad), protective of his alcoholic, angry brother Walter (John Whitened), devoted in the stewardship from the business he remained, this Deeds is really too good, too reliable, subsuming any actual desires of their own to focus on the requirements of everybody around him. He's so safe and foreseeable that after his fianceNatalie (Gabrielle Union) finds a blonde hair on the pillow within their mattress, she takes it less an indication of possible infidelity but as you that they must tell the housekeeper to become more careful using their dry cleaning. It's Lindsey, who together with her 6-year-old daughter Ariel has lately fallen from the precarious economy into full-on being homeless, who breaks through Wesley's spend by, well, trampling throughout him. Good Deedshas the shrillest meet-cute imaginable, by which Lindsey parks inWesley's place in the organization lot and, getting no clue who he's, calls him an asshole and walks away. Later, she taunts that he will run and "tell massa" on her behalf as he catches her utilizing an office phone for any personal call late during the night. Lindsey's abrasiveness is strangely wonderful - she's not looking for anybody in order to save her, and she's dealing with a really hard time - but it is one of many reasons the romance position of the otherwise engaging melodrama does not work. The main the first is chemistry - Lindsey andWesley have none whatsoever. There is a brother or sister quality for their banter that reduces the potentially creepy aspects that Wesley involves Lindsey's aid financially, purchasing her and her daughter dinner and finally supplying her having a spot to remain in a company apartment, there is however no spark together, even while her influence begins opening him to new options in the existence. Newton's loveliness is indisputable, but it is downplayed until late within the film - before that time, she's harried and sometimes seen putting on a cleaning crew outfit, sleeping with Ariel in her own minivan or attempting to hide the lady inside a supply closet while she works the evening change. In comparison, Union's character is proven beginning your day getting immaculately composed while putting on a slip and heels. Area of the fancy ofGood Deedsis that Wesley, a personality who, because he states themself within the introduction, has everything, includes a run-along with an unapologetically insulting, frazzled lady who leaves her kid unwatched in her own vehicle and runs off, and that he thinks that she's most likely what he's been missing in the existence. Wesley's so square that after he looks through Lindsey's ipod device, he notes she's hearing "Two-P-A-C," however the two find mutual understanding within their passion for motorcycles, and have a geographically improbable lunch ride over the Golden Gate Bridge to Santa Rosa (despite filling out plentiful snap zoom-filled shots of Bay Area, Good Deedswas shot in and appears enjoy it was shot in Atlanta). While Wesley is both too good to be real as well as an lack of a charisma on the watch's screen, Good Deedsis very fair to the two primary female figures even while they are both entangled with similar guy. Despite her role within the story, Natalie is not converted into a villain, just somebody that, like Wesley, has selected something because she has been told she should need it. And also the domino chain of poverty-driven difficulties Lindsey faces is well-recognized - because she can't pay her rent promptly, she's kicked out and manages to lose the savings she's stashed, because she needs to work she can't look at the shelter promptly, because she's working double changes to return to her ft financially she's late obtaining Ariel and her teacher informed child services. It's Wesley who never appears just like a real person, however he isn't intended to be one - he's Prince Charming for any prospective audience of ladies who're less enchanted by rippling abs compared to kindness and responsibility. James Bond Video Blog Gets You Ready For 'Skyfall'

If you aren't excited about the next James Bond movie, "Skyfall," now there's a video to ask you "Why the hell not?" The official video blog for "Skyfall" has officially kicked off with a short clip from director Sam Mendes. You know Sam Mendes, right? The Academy Award-winning director of "American Beauty"? The man who arguably hasn't made a bad film? Why aren't more people excited about this? In the clip, Mendes discusses how he grew up watching Bond and that "Casino Royale" convinced him that a great 007 movie was still possible. Notice how he made no mention of "Quantum of Solace." The omission can only hint at the new direction for the series, hopefully away from trying to compete with the hyper-kinetic fast punching of Jason Bourne. The video blog doesn't reveal much about "Skyfall" itself, but we get some small glimpses of Daniel Craig back as Bond in what looks like an abandoned European electro club. We see mostly his silhouette as he slowly stalks with his standard Walther PPK ready to strike. Hiring Mendes for the job definitely signals a much needed slowing down, as if the studio listened to hardcore Bond fans and said, "Pump the brakes." "Casino Royale" struck a chord because of the balance of cooler, tension-filled moments and outright action, plus an emotional connection that was real. Mendes is certainly new to action, but the man has a natural eye for stunning visuals and can clearly handle the human element. The director hasn't satisfied all of the fans though, with many afraid "Skyfall" could become too talky of a Bond, but this is an expensive action film. It wouldnt have been greenlit without the right amount of action. So, check out the video blog for a sneak peek at what a Bond movie will look like when it's directed by an Oscar winner. What did you think of the video blog for "Skyfall"? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter!

'Game Of Thrones' Season Two Has 'A Fair Amount' Of Dragons Says Emilia Clarke

For all of our fellow "Game Of Thrones" fans, that April 1 season two premiere date just can't come soon enough. What is going to happen in Westeros?!? Which beloved characters will live and die this time around?!? And while those of us who've read the books know a few answers to those questions, you never know when we'll get thrown a curveball. Nevertheless, we've started to get some pretty good teases about what's going down in the upcoming season: Cersei's losing her mind, Tyrion is going into battle and now thanks to a recent chat with Emilia Clarke, we have some news of... dragons. "You're going to see a fair amount of them I think," Clarke told us of how much we'll see her character's new "children." "They're my three little new cast members." Three new cast members that we are totally psyched about. Who doesn't love dragons? Particularly when they are given the George R.R. Martin and HBO treatment, we know it will all be awesome. We then asked Clarke what she's given to work with prop-wise for the three young critters or if they're considering animatronics. "We have models that I get to do camera rehearsals with and then there's nothing and I just have to kind of [imagine them]," she explained. "I was holding a little stuffy toy [at one point], that was about it." The dragons are just a small part of the action for Daenerys Targaryen this season though. "She goes through another different stage I think, kind of coming to the realization of what she's up against and that she's definitely in a man's world," Clarke explained of her character's arc. "So it's interesting." With regard to the slew of new cast members who have been added to the mix, Clarke would only hint at their impact. "We have a few new players, there are some interesting ones that kind of make an appearance," she said with a knowing smile. What do you think about Dany and her dragons? First Published: January 20, 2012 10:05 AM EST Credit: Getty Images NY, N.Y. -- Caption Tracy Morgan smiles at the premiere of Righteous KillNBC comedy 30 Rock often finds laughs in real-life events in the show business world it inhabits. But Thursdays edition targeted one of its own cast members, Tracy Morgan, whofound himself in real-life hot water last June after making anti-gay remarks during a stand-up appearance in Nashville, Tenn. On the 30 Rock episode, Tracy Jordan, the character Morgan plays, sparked a protest after making a couple of ridiculous gay-oriented jokes at a club date. A contrite Jordan mistakenly apologizes to the makers of Glad bags, rather than to the Gay&Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, known as GLAAD. Jordans boss, played by series star Tina Fey, is forced to apologize for him. Hes not capable of hate, she assures the media. Hes just an idiot who doesnt know what hes saying. In real life, Tracy Morgan publicly apologized to his fans and the gay and lesbian community for what he called my choice of words. He denied being a hateful person and acknowledged that even in a comedy club what he said went too far and was not funny in any context. During his rant, Morgan had said in part that if his son were gay, he would pull out a knife and stab him. Fey, who is also the creator and an executive producer of 30 Rock, issued a statement at the time declaring I hope for his sake that Tracys apology will be accepted as sincere by his gay and lesbian co-workers at 30 Rock. ITV, BSkyB told to back U.K. films

LONDON -- Blighty's tv producers -- particularly satcaster BSkyB and commercial broadcaster ITV -- maintained as to speculate more gold gold coin in Brit photos while indie producers should be capable of recoup more earnings if their pic clicks, mentioned the U.K.'s extended -anticipated Film Policy Review. Former culture secretary Chris Cruz, who chaired the independent review, grew to become part of current culture minister Erection dysfunction Vaizey within the Department for Media, Culture and Sport london on Monday because he revealed the 108-page report, which contained 56 advice on national film insurance plan for that U.K. government to look at. Cruz, who noted the extended-gestating report originates from the rear of "an very good year" for independent British film, designated most likely the most important recommendations inside the review, including pointing the finger at ITV and BSkyB, which, he mentioned, "needs to be doing more both if this involves buying and selling in independent British film production too as with their acquisition recommendations for movies they're buying to demonstrate by themselves channels." Learn how to that lottery funding for film increases in our 27 million ($41.4 million) to $61.3 million by 2014, the review also called for better terms for independent producers in Blighty. Particularly, it recommended that producers must be capable of recoup more earnings to reinvest afterwards productions and recommended the U.K. tax credit needs to be known as the producer's equity stake, and may recoup on equal terms with any BFI investment. "We're feeling there has to be a mechanism inside the funding system, particularly with increased lottery money becoming accessible within the lottery system, for producers to be capable of reinvest money from effective movies into further production rather than simply returning it for the lottery pot," mentioned Cruz. "Success needs to be paid out and re-investment needs to be advised." In addition, as formerly reported in Variety (Daily Variety, Jan. 11, 2012), the review recommended a completely new joint-venture fund to align producers more carefully with U.K. entrepreneurs. The recommended fund enables producers to get into lottery funding to discuss the cost with distribs of pre-buying U.K. rights to their own personal projects. Not only would this mitigate the risk of the distributor, nevertheless it would allow the producer to experience a more direct fascination with a film's success within the box office, given they could be additionally a co-who is the owner of U.K. rights. A raft of other recommendations filled the report, including with unified film education nationwide, an annual British Film Week to put Brit photos "more positively before British audiences," which causes it to be a legitimate to record a movie in the cinema, and encouraging more shared rewards between producers, authors and company company directors, and so the creative team can participate the wealth of the pic. However, thinking about that it's been 14 years since summary of film policy remains offered around the us government, there has been some blazing omissions. The report not successful to handle the well-known low-film rental costs that independent entrepreneurs receive (around 28%), and suggested nothing about encouraging European co-productions, or putting the U.K. in to the Eurimages co-production fund. Cruz stated the BFI will probably be told the U.K. "should" look toward European co-productions, but thinking about it charges an upfront fee, re-entering Eurimages "wasn't the finest or most immediate priority." Despite the fact that exhibs possibly weren't being asked for to strike the rental front, they were however being referred to as onto help find a less expensive treatment for the Virtual Print Fee model "that puts the independent distributor inside an economic position that's much like or a lot better than the 35mm model." They were also advised to talk about with indie distribs "changes to current practices and contracts regarding theatrical home home windows together with other exhibition terms." People in the Film Policy Review panel who aided compose the report incorporated "Gosford Park" and "Downton Abbey" scribe Julian Fellowes, Film4 topper Tessa Ross, Matthew Justice, producer and m.d. of huge Talk, and may Clarke, founder and former Boss of Optimum Delivering. The U.K. government as well as the BFI are expected to reply entirely for the recommendations inside a few several days. Contact Diana Lodderhose at diana.lodderhose@variety.com

Around the capture side, three digital camera models are garnering attention in present day high-finish production world: The Red-colored Epic, your camera that broke the ice for 4K origination, was adopted by Shaun Cronenweth on "The Lady Using the Dragon Tattoo." The 2K Arri Alexa is being used on many television productions, and it is making headway within the feature realm on such productions as "Very Noisy & Incredibly Close," the three dimensional "Hugo" and "Rampart." And The new sony is incorporated in the procedure for raising the bar using its F65, which utilizes an 8K sensor to capture light and downsamples that information to "nearly uncompressed" 4K. The Red-colored Epic was upgrading for Cronenweth, an Oscar nominee for "The Social Networking," shot by having an older edition from the Red-colored. The Epic included advances in data management that permitted Cronenweth and director David Fincher to consider a far more hands-on approach using the images on "Dragon Tattoo." "Whenever we began the project, you needed to send your footage to Red-colored, plus they transcoded it for you personally,Inch states Cronenweth. "Fincher loves to cut in the end shoot, therefore we shot using the Red-colored One before the software for that Epic grew to become available and that we could get it done ourselves." Cronenweth was happy with the Red-colored Epic. "Film and digital are extremely close now, particularly with the enormously effective tools you may use after photography," he states. "I believe we're really dead even. On 'Tattoo,' we needed to survive through cold, rain, sleet, snow, low light levels -- and also the camera carried out well. "I really like film, and also the miracle from the photochemical process does not happen having a digital capture system," he states. "But how much control you've with digital from starting to finish may be worth the sacrifice. It enables you to possess a clearer understanding when you are working together and interpretation another person's story." After extensive testing, John Schwartzman chose Red-colored Epic cameras for his three dimensional photography of "The Astonishing Spider-Guy," due later this season. A chance to record images within the ArriRaw format while using Codex Onboard recorder was a significant factor behind your decision by two-time Oscar champion Chris Menges and director Stephen Daldry to find the Arri Alexa for "Very Noisy & Incredibly Close." The Alexa's nick begins by taking roughly 3.5K of knowledge. "It features a great ability during the night, since you can raise the ASA so easily," states Menges. "It's an excellent, vibrant color presence. But on top of that, specially when you are handling a child actor, may be the Codex hard disk, which could run for 50 minutes." Cinematographers are searching toward Arri's next generation of digital camera models, brought through the Alexa Studio model, that will feature an optical viewfinder, an analog shutter along with a 4x3 sensor. The greater-square sensor is well-suitable for 2x anamorphic photography where the taking lens squeezes the look, that is eventually displayed inside a widescreen 2.4:1 aspect ratio. Most digital camera models make use of a 16x9 nick. The most recent entry within the camera contest may be the The new sony F65, which begins by having an 8K sensor and promises "true 4K" after downrezzing. Onboard recording is handled having a proprietary solution that utilizes SR cards. Jon Fauer, a NY cinematographer who puts out Film and Digital Occasions, had the chance to check a prototype. "My primary reaction could be that the F65 includes a high exposure index, along with a very wide dynamic range," he states. "The 4K output is really 4K, and extremely good. I believe this camera will attract the interest of numerous heads of production. It's essentially an 8K camera that provides 4K images with minimal compression. We are not likely to visit 4K, and The new sony has proven with this particular camera they understand it.Inch Fauer saw a 4K finish-to-finish demonstration at The new sony headquarters in Tokyo, japan. "It's completely immersive, almost three dimensional-like," he reviews. "I believe 2012 may be the year of 4K." Costs estimations of these cameras vary broadly, simply due to the plethora of packages available. Red-colored One proprietors have the choice to trade up for a cheap price. And the cost of rent must amortize the price of a camera on the most probably shorter life time in comparison to film cameras, which could remain helpful for many years. Nevertheless, the rough estimate for any Red-colored Epic fundamental package begins at about $60,000. The Arri Alexa starts at $70,000, using the more recent Studio models costing roughly $144,000. The The new sony F65 was apparently obtainable in late December for around $85,000, but that number increased following the first of the season. All individuals figures are substantially more compact than the price of a completely new 35 mm film camera. But such cameras aren't being manufactured. The irony is the fact that film could get to be the lower-budget alternative, particularly with cheaper options like the 2-perf 35 mm and Super 16. How quickly technology is replaced makes existence hard for rental houses. "The financial aspects are altering rapidly," states Fauer. "Among film's talents is archivability. We do not have a very good lengthy-term archive answer yet for digital, and that will participate the argument in next season.InchHIGHLIGHTSTechnologists Eye the way forward for Entertainment Presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers Description: Senior-level technology executives in the top galleries predict what's next within the movie and home theatre experience.
